Become a Coach or Volunteer and Make a Difference

Our Philosophy

Without caring mentors, positive youth development just docoachimpact_optesn’t happen. At The First Tee, we take coaching seriously. We believe that a meaningful, quality relationship between coach and participant is vital to our program. “Young people don’t always care what a coach knows until they know a coach cares.”

As you consider volunteering for our chapter, know that the safety of our kids is our first priority.  Please read our Prevention Policies to see how we conduct programs and activities at our chapter.

We are Looking for You!

Nationwide, we currently have more than 3,700 coaches signed up with The First Tee, including PGA and LPGA pros, as well as volunteers. But you don’t have to be a golf pro or even a good golfer. With The First Tee Coach Program, we provide the training you need.

Developed with input from leading experts in the field of positive youth development, our program focuses on empowering participants through decision-making and exploring options. This helps foster positive relationships between coaches and young people, inspiring the golfers of tomorrow to look to the future, set goals, and unlock their potential.

Make an Impact Off the Course

We need more than coaches to make The First Tee possible. We rely on volunteers — sometimes year round — to accomplish our mission, and not all of those goals involve golf; we need support off the course as well. Opportunities include:

  • Fundraising/Events
  • Operations/Administration
  • Mentoring/Tutoring
  • In-school programming

By contributing your time and talent, you can directly make an impact in a young person’s life.

Begin the Process of becoming an Active volunteer

Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer/assistant coach with our chapter must first complete the volunteer application / engagement form.  Please click here to complete the volunteer application / engagement form.  Once this form is completed and received, our Executive staff will review it and contact you to begin the screening process, which may include a face to face meet and greet or telephone call to further discuss your skills and interests.  Our chapter office does require that a criminal background check be run on all volunteer prospects so all applicants are eventually asked to sign an authorization form that allows our chapter to proceed with background check.  , and character references. You will also receive training about your volunteer or coaching role, behavioral expectations, and child protection.

Coaches trained to positively impact youth!

A trained coach can positively impact more youth in a year than an average person does in a lifetime. All of our volunteers, assistant coaches and Level 1 coaches complete the Assistant Coach Training eLearning course developed by The First Tee as a first step in the training process. Hands-on trainings are conducted one-to-one or in groups throughout the year to further train our volunteers, assistant coaches and lead coaches.  The primary goal of the ACT training and hands-on trainings is to equip coaches with resources and techniques so they can positively impact the youth we are privileged to serve here.

Volunteer NEEDED to support professional golf event july 20-23!

Volunteers from The First Tee of Omaha assist mainly with youth programming efforts carried out year round in the greater Omaha area.  On occasion, volunteer support is needed to bolster and enhance professional golf tournaments as well.  Hundreds of volunteers supported the Cox Classic, the US Senior Open and other major events in year’s past.  In 2017, the Tour will be returning to Omaha under a new title sponsorship with Pinnacle Bank. The Tour professional golf event will be held at The Club at Indian Creek.  The First Tee needs volunteers to serve as driving range attendants July 20-23.  For more information, click here.

Staff Coaches and Volunteers Enjoy some friendly competition

A few coaches and volunteers from The First Tee of Omaha gathered for some summer program prep work and then enjoyed some friendly evening competition on 5/31.  The group competed in a 7 Irons ONLY (no putters) 2 Person Scramble event.  Congrats to Calvin T and Zack H on posting the winning score of +1.  Thank you Ryan, our Program Director, for organizing this fun event!

congrats to our 2016 “Volunteers of the Year”

Each year, our chapter acknowledges the dedication and effort put forth by our entire volunteer team by recognizing a “Volunteer of the Year.”   In 2016, the lead coaches decided to award two volunteers for their excellent volunteer service.  Please join our entire coaching staff and board of directors in congratulating and thanking Amanda Wilms and Ashley Wilms for their volunteer support during our 2016 summer program.  Both young ladies displayed exceptional commitment to our west Omaha programming at Westwood Heights GC and sincerely enjoyed working with all of the participating youth.  Nice work Amanda and Ashley!
